John

Second John is an amazing letter. The aging apostle and elder of the church in Ephesus writes a touching note to people he loves. He expresses his joy at hearing about lives lived with Jesus. John encourages us to see the importance of truth, the need for obedience, and the power of love. John warns that the world has not given up on pulling people away from Jesus. In fact, John warns that lies and deceptions still abound. He cautions his friends and loved ones to examine closely anything that they are taught. He wants them to examine the teaching of Jesus, and compare everything we hear to the standard that Christ sets. In a world that still lures people away from Christ, it is important to remember the words of John. He writes to us as we daily live in a fallen world. He warns us to be aware of the lure of the world and tender to the call of Jesus. John reminds us that truth still reigns, obedience still shapes, and love still conquers.
