A Time for Everything

The New Year is always an exciting time. It is a time of new beginnings, a time for “starting over,” a time for new habits and changes in old ways. A time to recommit to what is important, things like family, friendship, church life, and discipleship. In Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, the author talks about a time for everything. As we look ahead at 2013 and ask what needs to be a central part of our lives, we understand that we have a need to be connected to God, to be intimately involved with Jesus, and to experience the transforming work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. In order to be open to these connections, in order to be deliberate about discipleship, we must be a people who listen to what God has to say. We must hear over and over the voice of Jesus. We must be reminded and encouraged about the work of the Holy Spirit. God knows our need, and so He gives us a timeless treasure. The Bible. He also gives us a promise to embed His words in our hearts as we seek His face. So this year as we begin reading together, remember that it is time to embed the word of God in our hearts so that we can look like Jesus!
